New round of character designs for Oni Roll

Sooo... I'm re-working for a graphic novel, Oni Roll, it's kind of a "me" project now. No time table, just for fun. But I DO intend to finish it one day. Anyway, here I was playing with a new design for one of the characters, Mac.

As promised...here are a couple more quick paintings of "close ups" on the other two oni characters from my story.

So I am planning to do set of three of these, just to sort of get in closer to my oni characters. Buuuttt... since I kind of used part of this for my new banner I figured I would go ahead and share - a shot of what it might be like to look one of my oni in the eyes. Happy Friday!

The Crew!

Soo... here is the line up of all the central characters (in all their forms) to my upcoming web comic Oni Roll! I started the project for an illustration class, but I definitely plain on taking it to the next level. I'll keep everyone posted when the comic is up and running!

So... here is the first full concept painting of the exterior of the sushi shop. I don't think it is going to be the final design but I wanted to share it anyway!

Fuun 2.0

This is a re-working of my villain character for Oni Roll, he now has a name: Fuuntatsu ("bad luck" and "dragon"... I think), or Fuun for short!

So... this is one of my sushi chefs in his oni form...still a good guy, used to be a bad guy... he may still get some final tweaks, but I wanted to share.

Ok, so here is a second crack at the villain for my Oni Roll story:

Potential Villain

I haven't given him a name just yet, but this guy is a potential design for the villain character in my Oni Roll story. He is a wandering samurai and he turns in to a dragon.

Jin or Min

This little girl is one of the central characters to my Oni Roll project, she is the pseudo-daughter of the three chefs. I haven't quite nailed down a name, but my lovely wife suggested Jin or Min, any thoughts?

The sushi chefs together!

Okay, so my visual development project this semester is called Oni Roll and it centers around three sushi chefs in medieval Japan who are, of course, much more than their appearance would suggest. I was going to show these guys one at a time, but I put them together in a quick line up and figured I would just show them that way. Anyway, more characters form Oni Roll to come, but here are (from left) Mac, Tong and Bolo!
