I know I'm not the first to this kind of thing, but I wanted to post these 60-minute color studies I did from There Will Be Blood. Such a beautiful film!

Firefly

Like I said in the last post, I have been co-teaching an animation class to high school and middle school kids the last two weeks. I haven't had a lot of time to work, but bere is a quick painting I did while the kids were working on their walk cycles.

Mega Smile

I was watching Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon the other day while I was working and I love the part where they first reveal Megatron with his sort of "wayfaring wanderer" look. So I did a little painting practice using one of the scenes from that sequence.

Scottish Fox

New character I've been working on for the last couple of days, might do a whole line up... might not, but I wanted to post this guy.

The New Setup!

I just got the Wacom intuos 5 and a new monitor for early birthday presents and this is the first piece using the new gear. It's a quick painting of a tractor harvesting hay (we went to the country a couple of weeks ago and watched the farmers work so this little scene as been sitting in the back of my mind for a while). Anyway, super excited!

What's the secret?

I saw this older couple sitting on a bench yesterday while I was jogging. It looked like they were sharing a wonderful little secret the way they were sitting together. I thought it was a nice moment and wanted to paint it.

Also, I hit 10,000 hits last night!!! So I decided to retool the look of the blog a little. Hope you like it!

I painted this off of a photo I took from a bar in the Bronx when I was visiting my cousin in January. I just recently got around to working on it.

A tree in a truck (updated)

Ok. Woke up this morning and re-worked this piece a little bit. Here is the new (est). The middle shot is one with a little extra glow... not sure if I like it. The old is below.

Next in line of the portfolio pieces. Did about 10 hours of painting today... exhausted but pretty happy.

Drink it in!

I said I was going to be posting A LOT this week. Well, for one of my portfolio pieces I'm doing a line up of characters I made up. This painting is the momma/boss of a group of coffee pickers who live in the mountains. I'm calling them the Mountain Klatch (Dennis Laycock, shout out! Taught me the word "klatch".)

Anyway, there are five of them but I was really happy with how this first one turned out so I thought I would post her before I head off to class. I got there palette from a picture of a cup of coffee I grabbed online.

I'll probably do some more tweaks before I finish her, but consider this the almost done phase.

Cat or not to Cat?

This is the piece 2 of some new concept work for my internship application. I can just have it without the cat as well. Feedback is suuuuper welcome.

Red MF'in Riding Hood

So, I am getting my portfolio ready to apply for the Disney Visual Development Internship and here is the first piece. Big thanks to Rico for go over a BUNCH of painting/Photoshop stuff with me yesterday... I think he'll recognize a number of those new skills at work in this piece.

Anyway, I'll be posting a lot this week as I get my portfolio ready, probably a mix of new stuff as well as some re-worked older pieces.

New Background! Troll Bridge!

I originally started this painting with the intention of putting a troll (I watched Troll Hunter last week) in it. Unfortunately I had to finish it up sans troll so I had something done for my background painting study. I think I may go back and add the bridge's inhabitant later though...

Finna' Animate

This is a background painting for my special effects animation in Animation 2. It is also a scene for my senior thesis, Amphora, and could potentially be my first completed artwork for the final piece! Well, I guess I'm not totally sure about that, but I liked how it turned out and wanted to share...
