Half a Dragon

I haven't posted anything in a while so I figured I'd share a sketch I did a few nights ago. I mean, half a dragon is better than no dragon, right?

Felurian

This is another piece from the Patrick Rothfuss series. It is the scene where the main character, Kvothe, and his crew come across Felurian. (It is in the second book and I will spoil it no further, though it says in the jacket notes that he has an encounter with the fairie.) Anyway... the scene stuck out to me as particularly vivid and I chose it for the subject matter of yet another Photoshop painting. Enjoy please!

A Game of Cards

Im trying to experiment with lighting in my Photoshop paintings so I did this one of a couple of gypsies playing cards at night. No real explanation for what inspired the little scene, just something that popped into my head.

The Chandrian

This was inspired by the Patrick Rothfuss "Kingkiller Chronicle" series. These guys are some bad dudes. But it is basically from a scene in the first book. I guess it would be ... "fan" art? Anyway, drew it in my sketchbook and painted it in Photoshop. Hope you enjoy:

"Greenhorns"

This is some original character design (oh yeah!) for what might end up being my first animated short... eventually anyway. For those who know em, they are based off Tommy Bracket and my dad as younger men.

The first is yet another photo from the farmers market.

These two are from trying an exercise I stole from someone else. You paint a random shape with some watercolor and then draw whatever comes to mind over it after it dries.

Edisto

Here's a little something from vacation. The docks are along the marsh side of Edisto Island. The place was totally gorgeous, but I'm glad to be home and getting back to work.

Old School Creepy Castle

I'm about to head out on vacation (!) but I wanted to post this before I left; it's kind of an old school, pen and ink drawing of a figure standing before a creepy castle (like the stuff I used to doodle all the time in middle school). It was really fun to just play and do a drawing like this, though it did chew up about half a micron pen... enjoy!

The Lantern

This is my latest PS painting. Grabbed the image off Google. I just liked its composition and coloring. Unfortunately I am not sure who deserves credit for it. Anyway... this thing took me a couple hours and I'm pretty happy with it.

London Woman from the Interwebs

Found a picture of this interesting woman on the internet and decided to draw her in my sketchbook. I don't know who took it, but I guess it was in London.

The Last Dumpling

My most recent "speed painting" in Photoshop. There supposed to be done in an hour or less, but I cheated and took about 2 and a half hours on this one. Anyway, pretty happy with it.

I did the drawing/line work for it in my sketchbook. 

Mrs. Yu's Sparrow

This is a little 2-second animation from Computer Animation 1. Did it about a week ago so it's a little late. It was fun to do.

Photoshop Paintings!!

Ok, so Goro Fujita is this awesome artist and I read an interview with him where he mentioned that he did one speed painting (30 min. - 1 hour) in photoshop nearly everyday for one year and how much better it made him. That sounded like a pretty good way to get better myself so I have started the challenge as well. So far I have done 8 paintings. The following are probably the best 2 of the bunch. Hope you like 'em. If you like these at all, a link to Fujita's blog is in my blog role (it's called Chapter 56), he is a lot lot better.

The Flamenco (first CG animal)

The Flamenco is my first CG character! We did the project in Maya during my summer Computer Animation class. The third pic is Flamenco crazy fuzz; same species, crazier fuzz.

This is the second few scenes I sketched these from some of the pictures I took a couple weeks ago, this time in a little watercolor notebook so I could experiment with the medium.
