Some pencil stuff!

Just wanted to share a couple things...

This is the first of a series I want to start about golems, they would just be pencil drawings with perhaps a tiny bit of Photoshop touch up. I might try to eventually do a gallery or something if I do enough of these...

And... bonus?

Web Wanderer

Another interweb wanderer... found this interesting fellow searching on Google. Don't know who took the pic itself or who he is, but he is definitely cool. 

"Greenhorns"

This is some original character design (oh yeah!) for what might end up being my first animated short... eventually anyway. For those who know em, they are based off Tommy Bracket and my dad as younger men.

Sketchbook stuff

Here is just a couple of sketches/experiments from some time spent my sketchbook last week.

The first is yet another photo from the farmers market.

These two are from trying an exercise I stole from someone else. You paint a random shape with some watercolor and then draw whatever comes to mind over it after it dries.

Edisto

Here's a little something from vacation. The docks are along the marsh side of Edisto Island. The place was totally gorgeous, but I'm glad to be home and getting back to work.

Old School Creepy Castle

I'm about to head out on vacation (!) but I wanted to post this before I left; it's kind of an old school, pen and ink drawing of a figure standing before a creepy castle (like the stuff I used to doodle all the time in middle school). It was really fun to just play and do a drawing like this, though it did chew up about half a micron pen... enjoy!

London Woman from the Interwebs

Found a picture of this interesting woman on the internet and decided to draw her in my sketchbook. I don't know who took it, but I guess it was in London.

The Last Dumpling

My most recent "speed painting" in Photoshop. There supposed to be done in an hour or less, but I cheated and took about 2 and a half hours on this one. Anyway, pretty happy with it.

I did the drawing/line work for it in my sketchbook. 

More from Worthington Farmers Market

This is the second few scenes I sketched these from some of the pictures I took a couple weeks ago, this time in a little watercolor notebook so I could experiment with the medium.

Fun with Photoshop/Weekly-ish (I hope) Summer Assignment

I visited a 'character generator' site (http://www.seventhsanctum.com/generate.php?Genname=quickchar ) that I found through Travesty's Beard and decided to try and create character-based artwork on a regular basis over the summer. This piece was done with the generator's suggestion of "a crippled mercenary". I drew the guy in my sketchbook then photoshopped him into a Parisian street scene I grabbed off Google. Then I painted/drew over the scene and just played with some effects. Here it is:

In The Show - "My Deer" and "The Reader" (redux)

Just found out I got two drawings in the end-of-year student art show juried by CCAD faculty. Pretty cool!

Reader at a Lamp

Another figure drawing post which means another nude! But this one is fairly understated at least. Did it with pen and inkwash in a roughly two-hour class session.

Save Polar Bears

This animatic is the most recent project from my storyboarding class. We had to create a public service announcement.

The Fenrirs

This series was done for my painting and color theory class. They're all about simultaneous contrast. The subject matter is the legend of Fenrir from Norse Mythology. Each one depicts a different scene in his legend. (Also, if anyone digs Fenrir, go to Aymrc in my blog roll. The guys is a French animator who did an amazing short piece about Fenris (same as Fenrir).) Enjoy.  

Master Copy

This was an assignment for my figure drawing class. It is a copy of a chalk drawing by Pierre-Paul Brud-hon. This includes my "cheat sheet" with all the little measurements and the original drawing, my full drawing and some details.

Clothes! Akane and "Miguel"

These are some recent sketches. One (dude holding coffee) is of my cousin from a picture I took a while ago. The other is a character from the book I'm reading right - Heaven's Net is Wide, part of the Tales of the Otori series by Lian Hearn. The character is Akane.

Martin the Dragon

Did this over spring break. It was a photoshop exercise I got from the latest Imagine FX. It's rough, but it was fun to do. The back ground is from a vacation photo taken a few years ago. My wife helped with the name.

A Fiddler

This is from my sketchbook. I took a picture of this guy during an Okterberfest event in Somerset and drew this off that photo.

Something pre-school/Little Girl at a Shrine

This was done last summer, before I began art school. I found it in a notebook that was buried among the things under the bed. It was a watercolor experiment that I kind of liked.

I also, as you can see, have added it as my banner.
