Nook and Cranny

I drew this dwarf fellow, Nook, and his little body buddy, Cranny, for a friend. They are characters of his creation who came about through many years of Dungeons and Dragons campaigns! So cool!

This is my final for figure drawing class - the image I used was a photo by Henri Cartier Bresson. 

Some Inks Washes

Just some ink washes I've done over the last few weeks. The first one is from an image I got on the webs, the rest are from observation or my own photos. 

Ballet Met Sketches

I just posted these on my cafe sketch blog too, but they were too fun to pass up on posting them here too. We went and sketched during a Ballet Met dance class yesterday and it was kick ass. I think I did something like 29 or 30 sketches in about 90 minutes. It was exhausting. Very worth it though. 

Week 03 Project Hiroshi

Epic fail? Maybe...

I liked the foreground enough with the squirrel and the log but when I played with adding the background trees things took a turn for the worse. I drew a small scene with trees, put it in the scene and then painted it and duplicated it a couple times for a "thicker" woodland look. I think it is too dark, too devoid of color and lacking the character the rest of the background has. I think it will be back to the "drawing board". (Get it?)

People-in-motion

This is my most recent homework from my Cafe Sketch class, had to draw people (as best we could) in the middle of making some sort of movement.

Week 01 Project Hiroshi

This piece is the first of four that will feature each character from what I hope will be my first animated short. I played with style for a few days before settling on this mix of line work and digital color...I'm pretty happy with the results. I intend to add more to the background in the actual piece to create more of a sense of being in the woods. The leaves took a LONG time, the whole image probably took about 8 - 9 hours from start to finish.

 

I also played with a construction paper overlay (in keeping a little more with the Hiroshi-ness of the project), so here is what that looks like. I also dulled the chroma of the leaves and the guys boots a little.

I'd love to know which one people like more.

Cubisized Masterpieces

I also put this on my Cafe Sketch class blog. Our first homework assignment was to take three master works and re-draw them with simplified figures. I chose pieces by Rembrandt, Caravaggio and Gericault.

Something a Little Old School

Using the watercolors! Going old school with a landscape. Painted it from a picture my dad took of the evening sky down in Morgan County, Ohio.

Edisto

Here's a little something from vacation. The docks are along the marsh side of Edisto Island. The place was totally gorgeous, but I'm glad to be home and getting back to work.

Old School Creepy Castle

I'm about to head out on vacation (!) but I wanted to post this before I left; it's kind of an old school, pen and ink drawing of a figure standing before a creepy castle (like the stuff I used to doodle all the time in middle school). It was really fun to just play and do a drawing like this, though it did chew up about half a micron pen... enjoy!

London Woman from the Interwebs

Found a picture of this interesting woman on the internet and decided to draw her in my sketchbook. I don't know who took it, but I guess it was in London.

More from Worthington Farmers Market

This is the second few scenes I sketched these from some of the pictures I took a couple weeks ago, this time in a little watercolor notebook so I could experiment with the medium.

From the Farmers Market

Took some photos at the Worthington Farmers Market today and worked from a few of them in my sketchbook. Used micron pen, then added color pencil.

I hope to work from some more and will add those later. I need a scanner. 

In The Show - "My Deer" and "The Reader" (redux)

Just found out I got two drawings in the end-of-year student art show juried by CCAD faculty. Pretty cool!

Reader at a Lamp

Another figure drawing post which means another nude! But this one is fairly understated at least. Did it with pen and inkwash in a roughly two-hour class session.
